Dear Parents,
Hi from second grade! We are working very hard and learning a lot of new things. We have just left what we call the land of the P’s. We have learned a lot about nouns and most of them start with a P. Ask your child about these nouns. They should be able to tell you all about them! We started with common nouns – which is any old noun. Next we did plural nouns- nouns that are more than one. Then we really got confused with possessive nouns- nouns that own something and end with an ‘s. We also had to learn about plural possessive nouns- more than one noun that owns something and ends with s’. They were very glad to leave the land of the P’s, but please make sure they don’t forget them!
Next we move on to verbs. We will be learning many different rules about present and past tense verbs. Please look over their papers as they come home. It is very important that they understand each rule as we learn them!
By the end of the first marking period we are making real progress! We are learning to use different strategies to figure out how to do the work by ourselves. We are developing self-confidence and now realize that we are smarter than we thought we were. Our work improves everyday!
Please remember that we need to keep practicing everyday. We should be practicing our adding and subtracting facts. Also, keep reviewing all the grammar rules that we have learned so far.
We now venture into the second term. I am very proud of all the second graders! They have become children who are working hard on self-control while still having fun. They are developing pride in their work and work very hard at doing their best work. Please tell them how proud you are of them and to keep up the good work.

Greetings from Second Grade
After the first few weeks of school we continue to hard in second grade. Everyone knows we have some more hard work ahead of us, but we are ready for the challenge.
We just finished writing a personal narrative using the steps in the writing process. The class has now decided that proofreading is not their favorite thing to do. We will work on this skill and keep working on improving our writing. In English we will soon be learning about nouns; I call the confusing land of the P’s. We will learn about proper nouns, plural nouns, possessive nouns, and pronouns. There are so many things to learn about nouns that it is important to learn every rule before another one pops up. So save those language papers with the rule boxes.
We also need to become more proficient in math. Please keep working on those addition and subtraction facts.
I am very encouraged by the enthusiasm the children are showing and the effort they are putting into their learning! We are working on being responsible and doing things for ourselves. I am happy to say that I am very proud of this second grade and I know we will do great things this year!
